Naresh Kumar, the Chief Secretary of Delhi, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) batch of 1987 from the AGMUT cadre, has sought relief from the Uttarakhand High Court to prevent his arrest in connection with a corruption case lodged against him in Almora on April 11, 2024.
The legal representative of the Delhi Chief Secretary submitted a petition on May 8, prompting the High Court registry office to request an amended plea due to technical deficiencies in the initial application.
Following the submission of additional documentation by the counsel, the case is scheduled for a hearing on May 22.
The allegations stem from an incident on February 14, during which Naresh Kumar and his subordinate YVVJ Rajasekhar, an IAS officer from the 2012 AGMUT batch, reportedly dispatched four individuals to a school operated by the Pleasant Valley Foundation in Almora.
These individuals allegedly confiscated files, records, documents, and pen drives believed to contain evidence implicating Kumar and Rajasekhar in various fraudulent activities.
The Pleasant Valley Foundation had lodged complaints with the Central Vigilance Commission on December 11, 2023, and February 2, 2024, accusing Kumar and Rajasekhar of involvement in several scams.
Copies of these complaints were also forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office and the Union Home Minister.
On March 2, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Almora ordered the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Naresh Kumar and his associate Rajasekhar based on the allegations.
