Public officials gain the respect and gratitude of the populace when they attentively address and resolve community issues. A striking example of this occurred in Madhya Gumpu, a tribal hamlet in the Subbaraopet gram panchayat of the Dummugudem Mandal.
The villagers chose to rename their community in honor of IAS officer Anudeep Durishetty (IAS: 2018: TG).
Durishetty served as the Kothagudem district Collector until recently and made notable strides in problem-solving for the region.
The residents of the hamlet had been grappling with a lack of proper road access for about half a century, a situation that became quite alarming during emergencies.
Their long-standing land acquisition issue, which hampered the construction of a road, was finally resolved under the initiative of Durishetty, leading to the establishment of a gravel road in February.
This renaming is not unprecedented. Another similar gesture happened when a village was named Ashok Nagar in 2006. This renaming paid tribute to the then Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and is located in the Kadapa district in his constituency.
